First Time Poster
I have a '65 Coupe, 289 with a stock two barrel. I have been having problems with this old carb and was looking to get a replacement but am now thinking about upgrading to a 4 barrel and a new intake manifold. Its an everyday car for me so I dont want anything too crazy but of course I would always enjoy some more power. Any suggestions for carbs and intakes that will look clean and "stock" and not empty my pockets? I'm not real sure about the whole 600cfm, 750cfm, etc., or if I can easily upgrade to an automatic choke. Any suggestions for places to look or talk to would be greatly appreciated also.
Thanks |
Re: First Time Poster
A good aftermarket carb/manifold for the 289 is the Edelbrock Performer 289 Intake with a 500-600 cfm Edelbrock Carb. Otherwise stock Ford small blocks are easy to over carburate, so don't go any bigger. If your car is automatic, be sure and get the linkage for the kickdown. Welcome to Mustangworks!

Very good advice...
If you really want a "stock" look... maybe you could even pick up a 4 barrel stock manifold at a swap meet or salvage yard. You will lose performance, but keep the appearance. Otherwise, a 600 cfm holley with vacuum secondaries and a Performer 289 will be a great addition... for around $400 Intake: http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...20&prmenbr=361 Carb: http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerc...55&prmenbr=361 |

And dont worry about upgrading to an electric choke. All it is is one wire to hook up. :) J |
