66 Front Brake Removal

Hey there how do you remove or unfreeze a front brake drum? I've tried using force (hammer) does it need a special puller?
Thanks

if its like the back ones, there is a little hole in the back of the brake, which you can stick a screwdriver into, and in there is this little wheel, which you turn with the screwdriver and it loosens the drum. You should be able to see the wheel, its perpendicular to the brake plate (the thing with the hole) and it has all kinds of little ridges on it to move it with your screwdriver. Hope this helps.

I hate to ask this...

But you did take the wheel bearings out, right?

Otherwise... do not use a hammer unless you plan on getting new drums, which are not cheap. Use the adjuster that bmxmon referred to.

Thanks.. for the input, the drum came off with a little "coaxing". The other question is in respect of the master cyl and power boost. The pedal is only about 1 - 2 in off the floor with very little room for travel. Touch the brakes at slow speed and wheels lock. Using the parking brake, wheels don't lock. I'm thinking that it might be a sticking valve in the booster (wheels turn ok when car is jacked up). The plunger stem (pedal into booster?) seems ok.

Just got car other day 66 coupe with pwr (drum) brakes and 289 with c4 auto, plan to get road worthy (needs steering work) and drive for summer then tear down to frame and see what we got into. Frames very good, doors very good (look to be original) no rust but rocker panels at frnt need work. Floor is not too bad some spots need work, person who had it previously, replced fenders and quarters, did ok job. All badging, emblams present and look original and car is complete and everything works... so it looks good.

It's been quite awhile since we've done any of our own mechanical (major) so we're very rusty in diagnostics.

Thanks for your hlp
