need a little help with engine question

Well,here goes...
I have a 170 engine from a 65 mustang and would like to know if I could install it in a 1989 Bronco 2 that has a 2.9 six cylinder engine....
Do you think it would be compatable?

Yes,I know it sounds dum to a "cranky ole man" who happens to know what hes doing with cars(lol) but Im dealing with 2 shade tree mechanics who apparently havent converted to the metric systems yet! Not to mention, who believe that Duct tape is a serious and necessary tool! ha ha !
Thanx,we were pretty sure that it would fit,but there seems to be some worry about a bellhousing or some such...

Ps, your Falcon sounds hot! It was one of my favorites, back in the day!

Well now you're talkin tranny, and if it is a C4 there was a large and small bellhousing version. Perhaps one of the other guys know what year was what, because it's possible that might be a clearance issue ??

Thanks !!! maybe someday it will be hot, but it's beginning to seem like by the time I get it together, we'll all be running around in photon drive hover craft lol It's my son's car, and he seems to think his money is better spent on wine women and song ! Imagine that ! :p

Now, I never had that problem, but maybe that is why the car is here 10 years later all shined up in the garage.....and the ladies keep going bye bye ;) I am seeing a trend here

Isn't that a V6 in the Bronco? I don't think those things are big enough to have an I6 in there...

Re: need a little help with engine question

Yep! it has a v-6,and we have a '65 mustang straight 6 that we are trying to convert over to it.

You can put any engine in any car/tk. Just how much "Work", and how much money do you want to throw at it.

The swap you're talking about, 2.9 V-6 pulled and an inline 170 just isn't swap made in heaven. Way too many differences in the engines to start with. Plus the Bronco II is FI with all the EEC harnesses and componets. The 170 is a single barrel carb. with points, condensor and "Zero" electronics.

I wouldn't attempt it. Just sounds like one heck of a nightmare.

It just might be easier to build a bridge across the Atlantic ocean to europe.
