Rear Quarter Paner replacement

I have begun stripping down My 66GT. I need to replace my rear quarters and trunk floor. Any suggestions, hints tips etc. How difficult is replacing the quarters?

How good are you with, and do you have access to a Mig/Tig?

I have a Mig welder, and fair at using it. I have done 1 semi resoration before on a VW Bug if that counts. I have never replaced quarters though. This is my first Mustang.

Re: Rear Quarter Paner replacement

I did mine over the past winter - have a sears wire fed welder. What I did was fit the panel then pre-drilled small holes about every inch or so and tacked the panel on. The actual welding was not hard, but one word of advise - get good panels. Mine were not what I would call a great fit, probably because they were from china or mexico. They have been on over a year and show no signs of fatigue or letting loose anywhere. Take your time - once they are on - that is it - no room for adjustments. Make all the necessary adjustments before fastening. I used clamps, vice grips and 2 other people holding and aligning as I fastened them. Good luck and have fun.

i'd never done it before either but when i fitted it, i put a bunch of little selftapping screws in to get it exactly where i wanted it then tacked it then drilled around the wheel well and stuff and made the fake spot welds then completed the top long weld migging about a 1/4 inch at a time? at a time and had a spray bottle so i didn't warp things. seems to have worked out ok. make sure u'r door gaps and u'r 1/4 panel end cap things are aligned really well cuz i had to go over it all adding welds and crap which was a pain. its kind of cool when u finish tho.
