68 mustang
I have a 68 mustang coupe. I'm doing a complete rebuild. Here's my problem. I have the new rebuilt motor trans and rear end in. All lights are in. Dash bezel is in. Cig lighter hooked up.The car is now painted. All wiring harnesses are in the car runs awsome. The problem is when I turn on my headlights on the front head lights and marker lights come on. The left rear back-up light comes on and the lights on the rear are a little dim. When I turn the signals on (left or right) the proper order happens but very dim and slow.(front is good) Its seems as if I have a grounding problem but where? I have ran some wire from the rear llicence plate light and the ground eye connector to the bat-ground. I have tried grounding my light switch but same problem. Could there be a short somewhere also. Please help getting a little frustrated now. Thanks

Re: 68 mustang
Sounds like a ground problem. Have you cleaned the paint and/or rust off of the ground connections??
There is a ground connection in the trunk on the brace around the fuel inlet pipe. Other then that....I would get a wiring diagram book and find where all the grounds are. |
Re: 68 mustang
Had about the same problem with my 67, I have more than one problem. First I would check in your wiring harness to your steering column that controls turn signals flashers and horn and make sure that all of the little pins are in the sockets and are connected. Then check and see if you didn't pinch any wires behind your instrument panel. good luck it about drove me nuts.

Re: 68 mustang
Thanks for the input Gearhead and DPotts.
It turned out to be a nightmare. I had bad connectors between the rear lights and back-up lights to the front harness. There was continuity but no voltage going through. Changed the connector and perfect. I also had to change my instrument connectors as there was voltage on one side of the connector but lost on the other side. once i put on a new connector evrything work great. Thanks |
