66 Mustang AOD/T5 swap

I'm looking into buying a 66 mustang from a friend in the car business for a deicent price, i absolutly love the car except for one thing, it's an automatic. I was wondering if the AOD/T5 switch would work in a car this old and if it does, would it need any extra parts or instrutions.
Thanks in advance.

I`m sure you can find one year specific. I`m a member of a 1969 mustang club and it has detailed info including part numbers and list of things needed with either swap(aod or t-5). Also helpful hints of what year transmissions to look for.

Re: 66 Mustang AOD/T5 swap

I have personally done the AOD swap, the wrong ways, and finally the right way. I will help you out with any and all questions you have regarding that.

For answers to both the AOD and t-5, this is a helpful site http://www.windsorfox.com/ Although I must say their site had a lot more cool stuff on it for the swap, not sure why it is not currently up there. If you look at any of the big mustang catalogs, like www.paddockparts.com or www.npdlink.com they also have sections on them now. I highly suggest getting their catalogs, their websites leave a lot to be desired.
hope this starts to help,
Ryan

Re: 66 Mustang AOD/T5 swap

I did an AOD swap into a 68 Mustang. Easy swap, with the right crossmember, etc. Windsor/Fox made some of the parts and the rest were Ford.

Had to shorten the driveshaft, adapt the shifter and make a TV cable that would work with the carb/throttle. It was well worth the effort and time.
