Supercharger
Own a 66 and am have thought of adding a Paxton Supercharger to it. Engine is a 302 that has been modified with new cam with Crane rockers. Edlebrock intake, Edlebrock carb,Hedman headers, Flowmasters. Any one else who has done this modification willing to give me their opinion of the added horsepower and torque that I will gain in doing this. Would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: Supercharger
I have never done it but did do some research as I was thinking about doing a turbo awhile ago. Go check through carcraft.com's tech articles, as im pretty sure there is something in there about running boost with a carb. I heard that its really tricky to get boost to work properly with a carb, as you have to get a special carb or modify the one you have now to accept it. Good luck

Re: Supercharger
No prob with getting the right carb. You just need floats in the floatbowl that won't be crushed with the boost pressure. You do need the right fuel pump that will provide enough pressure over the boost pessure to supply the carb. I think Paxton makes all that very clear in the instructions (download them from their website).
I have often considered adding that system to my car. The problem for me is I can't imagine giving up the export brace and the montecarlo bar that reinforces the front end on early Mustangs. Remember that the early mustangs had Falcon front ends that are structurally very weak. Shelby fixed all that with the heavier after market export or "shock tower" brace and the montecarlo bar. The loss of that suppoort, I just don't think I could accept. Most claim 30-50% increase of hp with that unit. That's without any form of heat exchanger. I would probably bet on an extra 33% of what you have now. Rev |
