Center Console

Can I remove the center console, where the automatic shifter is? What are all the wires for underneath that are hooked to the shifter? Thanks

What year is your car? The console in my '67 is quite simple to remove. E.

I have a 66 coupe. It is easy to take the console off BUT, when I looked underneath there were wires running from the automatic shifter, are these wires of any concern or are they just lights for the shifter? The guy who had the mustang before was an electrical idiot & has wires all over the mustang, spliced with different colors, laying across the engine, running right next to the alternator (I can't believe they didn't get cut up) and wires running all around the interior.

I did get a new wiring harness, so I can clean up most of the wiring, BUT are the wires by the shifter anything of concern? or can I just cut & cap them off?

thanks so much for any and all information!! :D :D :D :D

Some of those wires could be the reverse switch wires as well. If your "electronic engineer" didn't cut them, or rewire it in his own "special" way

My 68 had wires under the console. 4 wires were for the reverse/nuetral and 1 for the lights and 1 for ground. You will have to see which wires do what. If somebody did rewire hopefully they ran the same colour wire for reverse and a different colour scheme for nuetral. For safety sake keep the wires connected. You could always re route them under the carpet up to the shifter.

thanks for the information, I guess I will keep the console on until I figure out what the wires are for. Thanks again.
