Rear End

OK, I'm gradually getting my '67 coupe to be what I want it to be. It has a 302 with mostly Edelbrock Performer RPM stuff - heads, intake, carb, fuel pump, etc. It has a C-4 transmission which I am beefing up. I think that I need to do something with the rear end but I'm not sure what. It's not a show car but it is a head turner and I like it to have some ooomph. I don't want to change a lot of stuff underneath but what would you chaps recommend that I do to the rear end that would be a relatively simple upgrade, i.e., not cause me to make a bunch of other modifications. Thanks for any help. E.

I say gears and a limited slip/posi/trac loc whatever you want to call it. Sounds like your mustang is pretty sweet now a days. Perhaps disc brakes if you wanted to go that route too.

Changing the rear gears to 3.55 will really wake your car up. It is an easy swap too. Buy, a pumpkin ready to go. Remove the axles, change pumpkins, fill will lube and you're ready to go. Oh, yeah the speedo will be off some, but that's not all that hard to fix. [different drive gear]

im guessing u have a 8" rear end....you could go and buy a complete center section built read to install for around 800 bucks ..prolly not a bad idea cuz evert thing will be fresh(clutches bearings gears) i would go with a 411 gear but it depends on how ur gonna drive it

I bought my center section years ago new for about $450. I dont remember where I got it, but you should be able to find them for a reasonable price.

It was from one of those ads in the back of the Mustang magazines, but like i said it was back in 95 when I got it. Got mine with a 4.10 and a trac loc.

I use an 8" 3.25 with an Auburn Pro limited slip. Without overdrive, I don't want to spin more than the 3300 at 70 mph. (my usual highway cruising speed). My set up is similar to yours with a C-4. I got my center section from Currie in Ca. but went to the Auburn Pro after failures of other limited slips. I did also have to replace the Auburn Pro after a few years of hard use. They will give you a new one for $150 if it's less than 4 years old. Of course there still is the hassle of having to remove and replace the failed unit. I think I'm pretty hard on the 8" with the way I drive and 350 or so hp.
