Door Skins

Anyone have experience using reproduction door skins? How does it compare with cropping and welding sheet metal? Seems like it would be cheaper to buy the skins than to pay the labor for reworking extensively rusted exterior door areas.

GEdge, It just depends on how extensively your doors are rust damaged. I repaired minor rust damage in the lower front corners of my '66 doors myself using home made patch panels (3"X6") brazed in with a small torch. The patch was then filled with a thin amount of Bondo and carefully leveled. If you're not doing the job yourself, I'd get an estimate from a trusted body shop, and take their advice. My $.02.
