Can't get Distributor In-289-Need Help Bad!

I removed the dist to install new manifold.
I cant get it to drop in over the oil pump rod! I put grease down into hole to hold pump
rod in the center set dist into hole & gears
than bumped the engine.(that usualy works).
Any suggestions?
Thanks!!!!

make sure the little latches that hold the cap on arent hanging down,,, they'll keep it from dropping in...try bumping it over again, may take a couple tries

Yah! Ihate those cap clips! I took dist. out earlier to retime to #1 post-no problem it droped wright in. Is that intermediate shaft suspose to be loose? Man! Tomorow i'll try
again! Maybe I can pull the shaft up & insert it in the dist. then lower it.
Never had so mush trouble with a dist!!!
Thanks

Make sure that the dist fits into the intake, I've had these be real tight and had to litely tap the dist in. Also, turn the dist a 1/4 turn and see if it goes in, then you will know the shaft just isn't lineing up. The oil shaft should be loose as the only thing holding it is the pump.

You may be a little farther off than you thought. If the distributor shaft turns at all when you bumped it go ahead and turn it over while someone puts a little downward pressure on the distributor. It should drop in before it makes a full round.

Well did ya get it in?Hope so.It shouldn't be that hard to get the distributor lined up.Clean off all the grease from hex part that engages oil pump drive, put distributor in where it should be and push down on it with one hand and with a wire jumped between the battery terminal and S post of solenoid jump the starter and it should go in.Good luck.
