ROLLER ROCKER ARMS ???
Does anyone know what kind of performance gains, if any, should I expect from a good set of roller rocker arms on my 289?
|
It depends on the cam you get / how many R's you want to turn.
You can go really wild with roller rockers but you sacrifice smooth idle. -JON |
You will notice NO difference in power if just the stock rockers were replaced with roller rockers. You have to change the cam with a higher performance one and then the roller rockers would be worth it.A roller cam like late model 5.0s have would make a difference, thats parts of the reason newer 302s run better than old ones, but to change an older engine to roller cam is kind of expensive.

I already have a hydraulic lift cam by Cam Dynamics on my car. I'm not sure of the specs because I didn't get it brand new however, it begins to make power from 2800 on up. Would Roller Rocker Arms be worth the investment?
|
Probably wouldn't hurt to try.I have Comp Cam Magnum roller tip rockers in both my 351W and 289 and they work good. The full roller rockers with roller fulcrum and tip would be overkill on a mild motor and more money.Don't expect to feel much difference with either one though. If you go with the Magnum rockers make sure you get the right ones. They make a "rail" type and non-"rail" type.Good luck.

all a other than stk rocker does is change the geometry of the valve train,in other words it will give you a slightly larger cam by changing ratio instead of having to change cams, try the 1.6/1.7 trick. you have to remember that the exhaust is already at a disadvantage because of smaller valve and port

also, sounds like you have a healthy came if it doesnt make power till 2800 rpm,do you have manual or auto trans,if auto, do you have a stall converter?
|
I have a manual close ratio top loader with 4:11 gears in the rear. Do you have any extra advice??
|
what all have you done to the engine? do you know what cam you have?
|
As far as the specs on the cam, I'm not sure because it was one my dad had layin' around in the garage. As for the engine, I have an Edelbrock 4v, Edelbrock manifold, K&N w/ 1"carb spacer, 160deg. thermo., flo kool water pump, tri y headers, and 2 1/2" exh.w/Hpipe
