Vibration in my '65

Vibrates (u-joints?) at 65+ mph. Is this common? Also "CLUNK" going into reverse.
Just purchased 65 mustang 6 cyl-auto.

The U-joints can cause this problem and will be the cheapest and most common item. After that you are looking at a rear end or transmission problem.

You can start with replacing the U-Joints, simply because that is a cheap fix. On the other hand I can almost Guarantee I know what the problem is...The EXACT same problem happened to me with my '69. It's the drive shaft. If it's been banged up or dinged, more than likely it's out of balance. Mine was so bad after review, I just bought a new one. Stainless and shiny, but cost me $250 (locally).

Usually the clunk is play in the u-joints.. I bet when you pull them they are dries out and rusted..

I am having the same problems with my 69 coupe and after I replacee the u-joints and balanced it, it still did it. All you have left is checking the yoke.

also might check the engine and tranny mounts to see if one broke..jack the rear tires up and take a look when someone puts it in gear or better, put it on a lift and look ;-)

I have had the same prob. I replaced my u- joints and it fixed it. But if you havent had your tires ballenced lately then you may want to have that done. Tire ballence can be funny like thats. Also the clunking ing reverse may be u- joints or you may want to look at your trany mount.
