header hitting starter

has anyone ever had any problem with there starter getting too hot b/c the header is to close to the starter?

You can get a condition known as heat soak when the starter gets too hot from radiant heat comming from close fitting headers. If you have the room, you can fabricate a simple heat shield between the header pipe and the starter or if room is tight, I have seen people use tape style header wrap on the pipes running in this area, to reduce the amount of radiant heat from the headers.
