T-5 behind a 351C
I am needing some information on putting a 351C with a T-5 into a 64-68 Mustang, or if I can even do this at all. Information on putting the T-5 into the car would be most helpful. For example mounting kits, clutch hookup, and drive shaft etc.

ok, for the first part of your question. A 351c will only fit in a 64-66 with sever massaging of the shock towers. It should fit just fine in a 67-68. And as for puting a T-5 in a early mustang, go to www.windsor-fox.com they specialize in restomoding. And they will have all the info and parts you will need to make that tranny work in the car.

They do make special headers that will allow you to fit a 351C into a 65-66. I know that Total Performance in Michigan was selling these headers for about $300 back in '87. John Vermeersh is the name of the shop owner, and he was also listed in the back of the FMS catalogs as the answer guru. I don't know if he's still in business, but it might be worth checking into if you don't want to cut your shock towers.
About the T-5, I don't think it will last behind the power and torque of a 351C. I bought a new T-5 for my '65, but I have decided against using it since I'm concerned it won't last behind a hot 302. For whatever it's worth, I've broken two T-5s in my '91. If you're looking for a new T-5, I have one for sale but I don't think its a good match for your application. A Tremec would be more durable. ------------------ '91 LX Procharger, 3 row intercooler, extrude honed Cobra intake, Mac full Length Headers, 30# inj., 73mm C&L, 75mm tb, E303 cam, 289 rods, ported E7 heads, MSD, T-Rex w/255 lph Walbro, 5 lug conversion, Cobra R wheels, 3.27 gears and Moser Axles. |
NO SLO has a point about the t-5, infact that is the whole reason i am trying to sell my svo 351w, cause i cant afford to put a tremec behind it. But as for the engine, the massaging of the shock towers was to make clearance for the taller deck height of the 351c

NO SLO PK how much do you want for your T-5.

I'll sell my new T-5 for $650, buyer pays shipping. I paid Saleen $863 for it, no joking.
It was a take-off from Saleen (which is a new part that Saleen removed to build their cars). I may even have the original invoice, but I'll have to check. |
