What Do You Think?
Anyone think I can produce 300+ hp and still get more than 15 mpg in my 67' coupe with about $2000 bucks? I did it but it cost more in the fastback. What does everyone else have under their hood and whats your gas milage? I'll keep you up dated as the engine build goes. I already have the parts and the block machined. Just a matter of time. It's great not to worry about rims and paint jobs because you have extra cash to dump into the engine.

its possible to get 300 horsepower but the problem is gonna be with the 15mpg. Are you planning on running a c-4, toploader, t-5 or what?

modded c4.....bearings instead of bushings in the right spots.

nope theres no way you get 15 mpg out of it with 300 horsepower, not with a c-4 atleast.

now i have seen a 67 or 68 i cant remember have 500 horsepower with a supercharger and still get 20 mph, But he had a t-5 behind it i believe.

Good luck i hope u can do it. It will be very hard with the c-4 though. U will be doing alot better than me though i only get about 4-6 mpg.

I've done it in the fastback but it took too many head aches to acomplish. I'll keep you informed on how the build goes. Should be done in a couple of weeks ready for the dyno pull. But with cars you never know!

Going good the rain forced me to remain indoors this weekend. Therefore I got a lot acomplished. Bearings, freeze plugs, crankshaft, camshaft, and 4 pistons are on. Everything is looking good.

The only way I can think of to get 15mpg and 300+hp with that combination is nitrous oxide, but then of course you wouldn't have 300hp all the time, only for short bursts. Sacrifice the gas mileage - go for speed! I get 11mpg in my 351C 4sp 69 with mixed driving and a not-so-light foot.

i think you should be able to do both, 15 mpg isn't that hard to make, just have to do a bit of tuning once u get it back running and u should make it.

Fostang, I only get 12.5-13 mpg in my '66 coupe with a C-4 and with a 3.25 axle. That's with a 306 and 300 hp. Cruises about 3000 rpm at 70 mph. I have my carb set up mostly for performance (jets, srings, etc.). I have gotten as much as 14-14.5 mpg, but with different carb set up biased towards economy. I just want max performance and screw mpg. I, personally, am willing to give up some economy for a little lower E.T.

I'm going to be using an edelbrock 600 cfm carburator. Checked piston deck clearance came out to be .005-inch below the deck surface with the 60 cc chambers on heads should be 9.0:1 compression. Installed the world dart 2 windsor heads also.
