67 ford mustang 6 cyl overheating problems
 

When I turn on my engine the temperature gauge and oil pressure gauge go up until they can't anymore. I have also noticed that there are blue flames shooting out of the exhaust manifold. I have replaced the thermostat and also installed a new radiator and carb. The engine is a 6-cyl 200. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Jeeze, Hockey, are you saying that you have no exhaust what-so-ever? Flames shooting out the exhaust manifold?

Possible non functioning (instrument panel voltage regulator) would account for inaccurate guage readings.

Flames out the exhaust manifold still bother me though without more explanation.

I have exhaust, but it's really hot. When I hook the exhaust pipe up to the manifold, the pipe turns red hot. I thought that this was from the flames that shoot out of the manifold.

It also smokes out of the gasket between the exhaust manifold and the exhaust pipe.

What's the timing set at Hockey? Is the initial timing retarded instead of advanced?

I'm not sure, how do you check the timing?

Get (buy or borrow) a timing light. Get one powered by the battery. You need some kind of manual to tell you what you're doing. My feeling here is that you are just starting out.

My advice is to read, read, read. Instruction manuals (basic) will tell you alot. Retarded timing can let combustion gases "shoot" out the exhaust manifold instead of making power as is intended.

A check on ignition timing is your first step here. Set it at what the factory specs say. The manual will tell you where and how to do it.
