Default Quarter mile times

Does anyone know where i could find info about the quarter mile times for a 67 fastback. I'm primarily looking for stock times that were run with a 289 (C code, 2v, 200 HP) engine. Trying to see how i fared at the track last summer compared to the times reported. Any info is helpful. Thanks

well I don't know for sure. but I would say 15.1 to 15.7.

I would love to know what you ran though.

Hey Fordkid, i just found out while i was at Barnes and Noble today that the 1967 Mustang with the 390 ci motor (stock) ran 15.7 in the quarter mile. So, i'm guessing my 289 isnt even close to those numbers (stock). I guess since no one knows of a website or knows numbers, i'll have to keep looking. Thanks anyways!

wow I am suprised. I was just guessing cuz the new 6cyl mustangs with 190hp run low 15's. at least my friends did. and I wouldn't think that your mustnag would be heavier then the new ones. wow I am really suprised.

sorry for missinforming you.

OK, I do know since my car was a stock C code, C-4, '66 coupe to start out with way back when. A '66 K code with a 4 speed and Traction-lock only ran 15.7 at around 90 MPH bone stock.

A C code with a C-4 would run about 17.0/80-82 in the 1/4 mile. That's not really impressive by today's standards, but that is what they ran.

Thanks Rev for the info. I just may have a Mustang that was "built on a Wednesday" then. I have only taken my car to the track once and made 2 passes. The first pass i ran a 16.8 @81.??. On the first pass i missed second to third shift. Couldnt get it in the hole :-) The second pass i ran a 16.6 @ 83.?? My 67 is not factory stock. The only upgrades that it has is a Demon 625 cfm carb (jetted down), and an Edelbrock Performer Intake. Also, i was told by the mechanic that i go to (sorry, i dont work on my own cars yet, i work on people) that a few of the cylinders on the drivers side weren't up to snuff.
As it is, i am trying to figure out what to do with my car. Should i keep the 289 and go all out with it, or should i do an engine swap? I would like to know what is realistic with a 289 in terms of maximum performance? Thanks again.

The original C code only had a 2 barrel and a single exhaust. If you have an Edelbrock Performer and a Road Demon, then you're well ahead of a stock C code. You desparately need a good exhaust though to take advantage of the induction mods..........and then heads, cam, and on and on.

If you're gonna start from scratch, you can put in a 302 crank with a .030 over bore or you can fit in a 351W in there without much trouble. Extra displacement is always desireable , everything else being equal.

300-350 HP shouldn't be too difficult to achieve if performance is your goal.

So then, with the mods that i do have posted, are my times decent. Would you be happy with those times? Or do you think they should be better? Also, you (Rev) mentioned that 300-350 HP wouldnt be too difficult... with a 289 or 351? If those #'s are with a 351, could you estimate for me what i could expect out of a 289 having heads, cam, exhaust, gears, etc. I'm not looking to be the fastest on the street or strip, i just wanna have a little giddy-up to my ride.

If you have many miles on the engine, then I would do a complete rebuild if you can afford it. But first you have to decide what the car is for. Mine is a weekend street driver/ street racer/ occasional drag strip racer.

What I did was pull the engine (well worn) and find a machine shop that knew what I wanted. I put in a 302 crank (cheap), TRW forged flat top pistons and a top notch short block rebuild.

I used a CC 268 flat tappet hydraulic cam ( better ones are available now as the Extreme Energy dual profile type) . The Performer intake with the Road Demon will do fine, Mine is good to 6000 RPM.

You do need heads. I started off with pocket ported 351W heads milled and gasket matched to the Performer with 1.85/1.55 valves with a 3 angle valve job. I had mine milled to make 9.5/1 CR.

You need a good exhaust system (extremely important). For the street, I use Tri-Y headers with a 2 1/2" custom made pipes with a cross over (H pipe). 3 chamber FlowMasters are loud but work well. Different headers might be better, just don't make the primaries too big.

Pulleys, roller rockers , and a windage tray each help a little. I built a home made cold air induction that seems like it helped a little too.

A TCI 2500 RPM converter and a B&M shift kit are the tranny mods. An 8" Currie built 3.25 Traction-Lock round out the drive train.

Good street radials are a must for the street. More power would require drag radials.

The only thing I did after these Mods was to install pocket ported TFTW heads. That helped 25-35 HP and lowered my ET by .4 and increased trap speeds 2 MPH.

Hope I remembered everything. Questions about my rig, just ask.

Well for starters, i would like to find out how many "true" miles have on the 289. The odometer reads ~45K miles. I am not sure if those are "true" miles or what. I am not sure how i can find out.
Also, my car as of today is a weekend street driver/hopeful street and atrip racer. Lets put it like this, i have owned my car for about 6 1/2 years and am sure that i havent put 9K miles on it. It is definately a weekend car and garage kept. If u dont mind i may have to pick your brain some other time when i'm ready to do engine work. Thanks

That's what I do with mine. What do you do with people? I'm a dentist myself, so cars and people are not really exclusive.

I am a PTA (physical therapist assistant) who is just trying to learn about cars and car parts and trying to figure out how things work.
