Question about wheels on my '65
Ok I am wanting to put new wheels on my 65 mustang. Now I am thinking around 17 or 18 inch rims but my dad thinks they would be too big and that the wheels wouldn't be able to turn all the way and blah blah blah...So my question, can I get wheels that size put on a 65 mustang without changing the suspension and all that stuff?

Re: Question about wheels on my '65
Yes, as long as you get the proper back spacing. I believe Rwhite has 17's and knows the proper backspacing. As for me, I have 17" Mach 1 rims with wheel spacers, though I do actually have problems with turning, as I dont have any stops so my wheels can turn too far and rub the inside of the tire with the frame rail. Is your mustang 5 lug or 4? 5lug was stock v8 4lug is stock I6. Mustangs plus sells 17x8 rims with 4.5" backspacing, 17x7 with 3.75".

Re: Question about wheels on my '65
I have 16's and my fender lips are rolled a little bit too. I honestly wouldn't advised any larger wheels than the 16's. I have no clearance issues, except for when I go to turn in a driveway that is raised up a bit and with the wheels turned pretty hard. I also have rubbed a little at full turn in a parking lot once. Something to think about is my car is also lowered a good bit. Not sure exactly how much with all the crap on there, but it is at least an inch. My wheels are also custom made for the older Mustang, with the proper backspacing. I will post up a pic if you like.
I have read where 17's clear and obviously some run them run them here. However, I don't know how they do it without rubbing all the time....unless you are gonna leave the suspension the stock height, then you will probably be ok.
