want 31 spline axles have rear disc breaks can anyone help?
I want to beef up my rear end with 31 spline axles a new posi unit and c-clip eliminator kit. I have a 93 Cobra with the factory four lug disc brakes in the rear. Does anyone have any suggestions to strengthen my rear end with out cutting it up, or switching to a nine inch rear, any help or thoughts are appreciated thanks.

I'm not sure you can install a C-clip eliminator with out cutting the axle housing. If you can live without the c-clip eliminator here are a few suggeations. I have just done this to the car I am building. I did alot of research before I decided. Since the car is being built from the ground up, I haven't had a chance to actually try it out but here's what I did. Superior 31 spline axles ($300 including bearings, seals and lugs from Excessive Motorsports), Eaton differetial (Year One has the best prices on these $329), Ford Motorsport 3:73 gears and a Summit rear end girddle. The car were building should have about 360-375hp at the rear wheels.

Yuo only have to trim the register off of the axle when you go to c-clip elems

Disc brake rears do not HAVE C-clips or require C-clips eliminators..check out the Eaton unit and give Drive Train Direct a call they offer lots of package deals and I am sure they can help you.
www.drivetraindirect.com 1-866-491-1954 or 1-909-272-0158 they are located in California. they have a 31 spline Eaton kit for a regular drum wheel for $549 Superior axles, carrier, bearings, seals, studs and fluid. Stay away from Excessice Motorsports...just friendly advise, do a search on them, their BBB ratings sucks as well.

gotta disagree...my 88tbird rear with disks has c clips and i'm pretty sure all 8.8 rears are c clip whether their disk or drum.. I'm upgrading to 31 spline axles with the eaton too. I'm gonna try a 99 mustang axle, supposedly it's 1/8 inch shorter than the tbird axle. I'll let you know how it works this week.

I have had the rear end apart to install 3.73 rear end gears and I know that it does have c-clips now. Does anyone think the stock axles will hold up into the high 11's? My other question is with the four lug axles I want to keep the factory rims and already have a set of centerline convo pro's for the rear that are 4 lug if I get some good studs I think I'll be ok, any opinions. I'm sure if I look hard enough I'll find 31spline axles and a new posi that will work with the c-clip eliminator kit and my factory cobra rear disc brake set up. Thanks for the web address Rick and all the other information you guys sent my way!

I thought the disc brake rears didn't have c-clips but it makes sense, something has to retain the axles.
Some axles last into the 11's some brake in the 13's. I launch at 6000rpm with 26" x 11.5" ET STREETS and the rear has over 180K on it, the only thing that was ever replaced was the bearing and gears....I am upgrading to a spool with 33 splines this spring.
