Rear End for 1966 289
My best friend was killed in 1988 and I have the car he was rebuilding. it is a 1979 Ford Cobra hatchback. He put a rebuilt 1966 289 engine with a C4 automatic transmission with a B&M shifter in it. When the car hits about 60MPH the Tack reads about 6k. Is the transmission correct? is the rear end correct (rear end was not changed from the original 4cyl Turbocharged Cobra engine). what do I need for this car to make it drive. I am committed, help?? thanks

Re: Rear End for 1966 289
Are you sure its shifting into 3rd gear? 6k at 60mph is pretty crazy. If its the stock rearend I wouldnt worry about the gears in that being a problem. Did you check to make sure the connections to the tach are all ok, does it sound like the engine is at 6k? My guess is its the transmission or shifter.
