Rear End
I have a 66 coupe and I was wondering if any one knows where I can get a kit or how to relocate my leaf springs to let me run wide tires on the back. How hard is it to ditch the leafs and go with a ladderbar\coil over setup? Any help would be helpful.

Its not hard to ditch the leafs, just cost a little to do so
I dont like the kits. Cost WAY TOO MUCH,and they usually dont fit,so why not make it yourself. Im back halfing my Mustang II soon. Heres my budget breakdown. This is the cheapest route for me and my sorry paycheck. 2x3 frame rail 20ft stick $15.00 Above mentioned, access to mandrel bender,a must. Your 9 inch, cut with pipe cutter. New flanges $20.00. Axles,$250.00 Dont forget bearings, Ladder bars, and panhard bar. $200.00-300.00. Two coil overs,$300.00 including springs if you have to buy. Wheels, ouch for nice ones. I found some old slots that match my fronts,$20.00. 14 inch M/T's $500.00,(Street tires.) Tubbs, wont cost me anything. Im making them. Lots of time, space and beer. Good friends are a must, should have mentioned that earlier. Lets see,@$1355.00. Umm,not too bad. Comb the want adds for any of these parts. I always buy a thing, here or there. Before I start, I'll bet my total will come down some more. Oh yeah, leaf spring perches cost around $15.00 bucks. Requires welding, and some enginering. Or,ever seen those slight fender flares on the Trans-Am Mustangs of yesteryear? Personally, the look of a tubbed Mustang with fat a$$ tires,is sweet. Since you have a coupe,go for it. But then again,I only Drag Race. |
