rusty frame
 

hi i have a 67 mustang fastback and the front frame rail supports are rusted and need to be replaced......how hard are those to weld? is there any kinda precautions i should know about???...and does anyone know about how much that would cost to have done???....

If you stripped it down to where a welder could get to it with no problem. I don't think it would cost much at all.

If your not a welder I wouldn't tackle a frame as a first job.

Probably pay more for the parts than the labor.

Stang's right. If you do most of the prep work it shouldn't cost you all that much. The actual welding dosen't take that long. It's pulling the engine,removing the suspension, cutting and lineing up the new frame rails that's the real work. If you just want to bring it to a shop and have someone do it, it could run you a few grand. Thats alot of labor. See if you cant get one of the guys at the shop to take it as a side job. That is if you have a spot in your driveway to set it up. Do most of the labor yourself, have him come in and weld it up. If you've never done anything like this before, get help when you're lineing up the new rails. The holes for the steering box and suspension have to line up or you will really be screwed. Oh, and if you're thinking of doing this now, condisder how bad they really are and how much of the summer you are going to lose with you're car in the air. If it can wait till the fall you can still have fun this season. good luck
