shelby or cowl induction
looking for a hood for my 66. what to get a new hood for it. whats a good company to buy from? what do you think looks better the 3 inch cowl induction or the shelby scoop. i want to get the complete hood fiberglass or whatever else that will help me lose some pounds off this thing. what do you guys think looks good and is a low cost quality company?
|
I was never big on the cowl induction hoods. I dont know which is better performance wise, but I'd go with the scoop. I put a Boss 429 scoop on my 70 vert and it just looks mean!

what about this. buy a hood off someone with a 66 and cut a hole in it in the center. then put in a 1" carb spacer for more power and then with the added hight put that blower air scoop with the 3 throttle plates that you can get in the jegs catalog and put that on. i think that would look cool? what do you guys think? good idea or would it hurt performance?
|
That would be awesome! But, how would you control the water? My friends who ride cycles remined me that rain happens! My 429 scoop is active and had to rig something up to keep the water out.
|
I would just make something up or just switch the air filter out when i though it was going to rain. with the air filter i could take the top pan and weld a skirt around it opening down. that would keep most water out and still let it breath a little.. no like i need top performance in the rain any way. Thats a good question though. thanks for the help. so you think i should just do that?
i dont want my stang like everyone elses but at the same time i want it to look cool but without copying the really popular ideas cuz then its just another mustang. Any more ideas out there? im totally open. |
No that would look really cool! you just have to get it at the right height. Just so the cleaner clears the hood, you dont need the rest of the carb or the mainfold showing. Also if you run a K-N filter thats oiled up it will help keep the water out of the carb. Then you just have to worry about keeping it out of the engine bay.

the setup i have now almost does not fit as it is. i think that if i add a spacer to it then i should be fine. if not i can always get those metal heat spacers or whatever they are and add those like shims untill i have the right height. would that scoop when finished be considered ram air and a shaker hood? you could see the motor torq when you rev it at a light... fun stuff.
|
It would definately be a RAM air setup. Technically a shaker? I wouldn't think so because it dosent seal to the hood. But who freakin cares it'll look 10X better! And whhen you pull up next to some guy at the light he'll definately take notice. It better be quick because there's no hiding with that setup! Thats not exactly a sleeper setup. Good luck

with 265 60 15 tires in the rear with a mad lift and 2 40 seriese(loudest one) flowmasters its not exactly quiet or slow looking. so the sleeper look goes right out the window. how much do you think i hood will cost. ill probably sand and primer it anyway but what do you think is a fair price? does the 64 1/2 to 66 fit or its it only 66 that will fit. and 6cyl and 8cyl dosnt matter either does it? sorry not sure on the dimentions. anyone ever seen this look before of have a pic they can post so i can see what it looks like. thanks.

ben looking on the net at jegs and summit and the scoop is $245.00.. no wonder no one else has done this. thats a pretty penny. plus i still have to buy the hood. anyone know where i can get one cheaper...even if it was used.

Mustang Plus
Check Mustang Plus. I know they have them and know them to sell good parts. Not necessarily the cheapest though.
