Shelby Intake
Good morning,
The car I just bought does not have the original engine. Its got a 66 Hi Po. It also has a Shelby intake manifold and valve covers. I haven't seen this intake anywhere else (catalogs etc.). Is it worth anything? Also does anybody have a feeling for how it performs vs. a new Eldebrock or something. It does look cool, needs cleaned up though. ------------------ 65 convertible 289 Hi Po 4 speed |

I know Tony Branda makes a repop of this manifold. I'm not sure what it's worth but if it is original it must be worth a few hundred bucks.

I've seen original shelby intakes go for an average of $450.

Thanks guys,
About what I figured. Not enough to take it off and sell it, but it does add some to the coolness factor. Just got insurance and put her on the road yesterday! ------------------ 65 convertible 289 Hi Po 4 speed |

I looked at the Branda site. There are pictures that look close, but where they say "COBRA" on the intake, mine says "SHELBY"
anybody have an idea what the heck this thing came off of? |

very probably was an over-counter add-onn like any other aftermarket manifold. I remember reading a comparison quite a few years ago that included the then-available 4bbl aftermarket intakes, I think this was maybe even before the Performer line came out. Before Performer, Edelbrock still had some really good 4bbl intakes, just not a catchy name for them. Anyway, the Shelby performed quite well against the others if I recall. You'd likely gain VERY few hp by swapping, and you've got a really cool piece there! Use it and be proud!

Thank Macx,
I think I'll do exactly that. Its going to takesome cleanup before I'd be proud to have the car setting with the hood open, but I'll get there. |
