Shifter problems...need help bad
Well the problem lies in the shifter (C4) of my '67 Stang. First it was
loose from side to side..the nut that holds down that plastic bushing was loose. Tightened it, no more wobble. Good. Another problem is that the shifter does not like to easily "click" into the detents when moving the shifter lever through the gears. I took it apart to exam what it could be. I have lubed the retracting cable from top to bottom, added white lithium grease to the actual button and where it slides in and out inside the T-handle. I even polished this area with a high # sandpaper...feels really good according to my finger. THe selector button does not release when rowing through the gears (gets stuck). With the T-handle off it works like it should, with loud audbile clicks! As I tighten it down, this is where it goes downhill. I have tried different methods, making sure it stays straight and doesn't move around...arrghh....no dice. I am stumped. Has this happened to anyone before? Before I pulled the console apart, I was able to push the car when in park, I was hoping to see what the problem could be. Am I attacking the right area? Thanks for the help guys. |

I myself put in a Hurst Shifter but I was told before that their was a bushing on that bolt you are tightening. If their was one their and not now you could be overtightening

also if the bushing is worn it will not hold the shifter strate. I would replace the bushing and see if that fixes the problem. not much to spend and may fix the problem.
