Default shorties from a 5.0 in a 67 mustang

Anyone ever use 5.0L shorties or equal length headers in a 67 mustang? we are curious if the shorties and an H-pipe from a 5.0 would fit under the car, if not just the headers, thanks in advance, let me know if you guys are running either

The answer is no. I believe the reason is they do not clear the steering box. Since you can buy headers for ~$100 why hassle with something that doesn't fit?

well my brothers 67 mustang is fuel injected and most of the headers for the old stangs dont have bungs for the o2 sensors, we had a pair of 5.0 headers here and just wanted to know if they'd fit before we pulled the longtubes out

You could have an exhaust shop weld a bung onto your exsting headers.

He wants a shortie style, the longtubes hes got on there now are rusting out, hes looking at getting the mac jetcoated ones for $159, a comparable 67 mustang header with the bungs is over $300, so there is a major difference in price

Since the Mac headers do not fit the 67, they are not comparable. If Mac headers fit a classic don't you think they would list them in their application guide? They would have a bigger market without any extra development costs. I don't think it is an oversite that Mac only lists Mustangs starting in 1979. Welcome to the hot rod world, things can get expensive.

also would you not think that they don't list them for other years because they are not a bolt in item since most of the people who make exhaust for 5.0 mustangs sell complete setups, including the h-pipe and tailpipes. that is why i was asking if they would fit or not. i don't see how the steering box could be a problem because from where i see it, there is still several inches between the longtubes on it and the steering box. does anyone else have any experiences or opinions on the matter

I tried to put factory shorties on my 68 FB, 289. Won't clear the steering box.

Get the right headers. You will also have to put the brkt. on the steering ram to drop it, if equiped with P/S.

The O2 bungs can be welded anywhere you want. Not a hard, or expensive job.

Do it right the first time, you won't be sorry.

Sounds like the only thing left for you to do is buy the Mac headders and try. Connecting to the collector is not the issue as it is relatively easy to get a muffler shop to fabricate a custom system, as many, if not most, people do with a non stock installation.
Good luck and let us know how your installation goes.
