backfiring, then running Good
Don't know if you have the problem solved since I haven't been to the site for some time, but;
My 67 was doing a similar thing and I tried everything I could think of. Did a bunch of checking around with my old Ford mechanic friends, and was told that a bearing in the distributor was a common cause of the problem. It causes sporadic timing changes. I bought a rebuilt distributor from NAPA, ripped out the petronics, going back to points which came in the rebuilt.
The car runs like a clock now.
