I had never messed with a 3rd member either. The Auburn Pro had pretty good instructions with it. I did have to take the carrier into a shop to get the new bearings pressed on. They gave me a few tips on how to adjust the pre load for those bearings and the lash. Over all, not too hard but you do need to get that (preload and lash) right to have a good result.
You will need a dial indicater with a magnetic base. I also had to make a tool to turn the spanner nuts that adjust the preload and lash.
