I've got a '67 with a 289.
it's a bit underpowered for my taste - but I bought the car to go real fast in a straight line (all city driving). I'm planning to put a bigger engine in (check out the thread '390 vs. 289'). it's a good daily driver, though - comfortable, handles reasonably well, and looks great (I think '67s are the best looking mustangs, but that's a matter of personal taste).
a 65 or 66 with a 289 would be quicker and would handle a bit better than a 67, so they might be better for transportation cars.
ya just need to figure out what's important to you in a car and the choice will become pretty easy...
