Question clicking noise

Hey, I am 19/M/Ca I'm new here, but I visited here a lot in this last month, I think this is a very good site, good job people.

There is a clicking noise coming from my motor, soom have said it's my piston hitting my valves, others have said that it's slack in the pistion rod, to me, I think if it is the pistion hitting the valves, I think it has to do the it needing a new cam and timing chain, I know the chain has too much slack in it. Also What is a good cam, I want a medium to heavy cam that gives low end torqe, and some medium horsepower. Also I'm thinking of going to a gear timing but I want a good quite gear, I think eddlebrock makes one. My car needs a lot of work. I bought it for $500 running. The motor has a half a$$ rebiuld and the body needs new rear quater panels plus a whole new interior, but just about every thing is going to be changed to new origanal type parts. Anyhow, just about any restore tips will help me a lot. But right now I need to know about a cam, thanks for your help.
