![]() Hi all,
don't shoot Iam partial to GM stuff but there are two Fords I have owned and love. 1931 Model A coupe and 1966 Mustang Coupe. I still have the 66, its a long story but I just bought it back after five years Rescued on THE day it was headed to the junk yard! eight years ago this car was project between an old girl friend it was very rusty floors etc, We brought it back to life and I drove it for three years (engine is 69 302 and RUG 4spd), during an exceptionally cold winter (Molly as she is called) would not not start in the cold, and became the source of many arguments with a new girlfriend, well she's gone car is back, so I want to put her back nearly original, I'm going to keep the 302. so i need help decoding vin# 6F07C703405, i don't think the driver door is original so the codes there are wrong for car but here they are anyway 65A Y 22 08G 13 6 6. car was originally mightmist blue, under 4 colors! by the way the "missingpony" comes from the fact that the one in the grille is gone...i just tell people the car went so fast the pony got scared and ran away. Long winded but good story Thanks for any help inadvance Scott |

![]() Quote:
F = Assembled at the Dearborn, Michigan Assembly Plant 07 = 2 Door Hardtop w/ bucket seats. C = 289 ci V8 w/ 2bbl carb. (200 hp, 9.3:1 comp.) 703405 = Production number. Quote:
Y = Light Blue (metallic) 22 = Blue Vinyl Interior Trim 08G = Built on July 8th 13 = Ordered originally by the New York District 6 = 2.80:1 rear axle, open design. 6 = C4 Automatic Transmission If the door was original, the Vehicle Warranty Number on the door plate would match the VIN (the last 6 numbers might be slightly different, but the rest would be exact). Take care, -Chris

![]() Thanks for the help Chris,
Is there any way besides the door tag to tell what kind of tranny it had, Since it looks like the opening for the tranny tunnel is the original standard shift hole? Thanks scott |

![]() Not that I know of, but '66 Mustangs aren't my specialty, either. Does it have a tranny in it, or do you already know it's not original (I recall the engine being a '69, but I don't remember what you said about the trans. I can ID the trans by the info on it's tag, and tell you if it could have been original, but without the door tag or a transmission tag, I don't know how to tell what it had.
I have been told that the majority of the manuals were 4 speeds, and of the two types of 4 speeds, the Warner was more likely. I can also tell you that if it came with a C4, the ONLY tag ID it could have had was PCW-H. Does the warranty number on the door plate not match the VIN? Take care, -Chris

![]() Thanks again Chris,
Say you Ford guys aren't too bad after all ha! I know the tranny is later like 74 or something from a list for a synchro NAPA book dates it there, codes are RUG M 1 020003. Door tag has 6T07C vin was 6F07C ironically the interior code matches for whats left of it, only the outside color is different. This old girl is one that went the well used and abused route,so drive train originality is just a "nice to know". PS the idea about that motor mount for the 65 in the other post came from the same trouble I had years ago with this car which turned out to be a combo of both bad clutch and mount. Thanks again Scott |

![]() Yeah, that motor mount was a great call! The very moment I was reading it in your reply, it all clicked. That's gotta be alot of it. I wish I could see it in person. It's so much easier.
Anyway, your door was built in Metuchen, N.J., but is otherwise your basic 289 2bbl Mustang door. The tranny code you gave me comes up in my books as a 1966-67 Ford-built 4-speed manual that was originally used in '66 & '67 390ci Mustangs, and '67 390ci Cougars. That is the only listing I can find for the RUG-M or the RUG-M1. Who knows? Look around for a cast part number or date code. Take care, -Chris
