I need to know what rear end I got on my 66 I6 mustang. I don't think it's A 8inch. but what were the smaller ones. o and I have A problem with my shifting linkige. I think I have another year trans but I am not sure. so is there A way to tell. thanks ford kid |

![]() If a scoket fits on (all) the reareand nuts, its a 8 inch rear. You cant do that with a 9 inch. Its one or the other.

![]() '66 6 bangers did have 7 1/2 " rear axles. They sucked badly and should be avoided at all costs.

so how much do you guys think A good 8 inch rear axle would set me back. and if I bought an 8 inch now and hooked it up to my I6 would I have to replace it again if I ever decided to drop A V8 in somday. thanks ford kid |

![]() I would guess maybe $300 for a used one in good shape (open axle , 2.80 or 3.00/1). You would want to upgrade it to a Traction-Lock 3.25 or 3.50 when you get the V-8 installed.
You could get that from Currie in Ca. in any ratio you want,. That's what I did to upgrade my 8". They are good, but fairly expensive. My center section was $650 to my door in Houston, but that was several years ago, and of course I already had the axle housiung, axles, etc. Rev
