Ford counts them all as 1965's. If it's a 6 cylinder, then it is an inline 6. No v-6's in that era.

Some Mustang aficionados call the early 1965's 1964 1/2's. They had Falcon speedometers and generators rather than alternators.

Hope this helps a little.

I dont think they made 200ci in the '64 , they didnt release it until the '65 year. Dont quote me on that.

I don't believe they the 6cly in the '64's.
Check out fomoco's stats on the I6
T Code 200CU
U Code 170CU

Those are the only 2 types of I6's they made back then. Do you have your VIN Number. Check out this site you enter your VIN and it will tell you everything about your car.

Best of Luck,
§am.

If you look at the Fomoco links provided by mach1...they did make the I6 for the 64.5 mustang. It was a 170CID from April-August of 64 when they changed to the 200 CID for the mustang.

Your VIN will tell you your information.

One really easy way to check is by looking on the data plate on the driver's side door (assuming you can read it or it exists at all). The date consists of two numerical digits and and one letter. The two numbers stand for the day of the month that the car was built, the letter is for the name of the month it was built. If the letter on your tag is an A though an M, then your car is an early 65. Just to be sure, check to see if you have alternator or a generator, whether or not the outside front edges of the hood have a lip or not, and whether or not the windshield wiper posts stick up out of the cowl panel (the later 65s have a wiper that is almost flush with the cowl..the 64s have ones that are mounted a little higher up).

There are other subtle differences but this should be enough to be certain of what year you have.

Good Luck!
