Default The swap begins!!

Well I am going to start the motor swap this weekend....from my straight 6 200ci to my nice 302 ...can't wait....already bought some shorty headers and underdrive pulleys for the 302....hope to add some more stuff to it after its in....got a question about the transmission. I'm taking the Tremec T5 tranny out of the 87 and putting it in my 65, is there a new cross memeber I'm going to have to buy? is it going to fit right in? and the same questions with the 8.8 rear end?! If any of you mustang guru's know...I would highly appreciate the help....thank you!!

Tom

Default tranny crossmember

Hello Tom,

Sounds like a pretty cool project, and I hate to burst your bubble but ford didn't ever put a Tremec tanny in anything form the factory except the 2000 Cobra R, that recieved the t56 6-speed.

What you do have is probably a run of the mill stock T5, which is a great relieable tranny. Before you install that puppie you might what to have a shop take a peek inside as the T5s have a tendency to be very had on 3rd gear, as well if it is a non-sincronised revers tranny the reverse is usually chewed up too.

On a more possitive note a crossmember is available for this application. (T5 in 65 mustang). I would start by contacting a company called Windsor Fox. They make all kinds of unique things such as you desire for your application.

Good luck this weekend.

Yeah, I brought the car to a transmission shop and they said it is awesome shape...it looks like it was just rebuilt, like what the guy told me that I bought it from....so the tranny is in great condition...it has bout 250 miles on it But with the reverse---is that why I get a little grind every now and then when I put it in reverse??

Default yup

That's exatly why!

The car must come to a full stop and have the clutch depressed for a few seconds to ensure no grinding.

We have a '94 explorer that does this from time to time when I'm in a hurry to back up.

So now I'm confused is the tranny installed or not?

If I'm just running behind how did it go? the goods bads?
