Default Engine Test stand

Can anyone help? I would like to build an engine test stand to run engines in after a rebuild (out of the car). These would be carburated engines. Has anyone done this? I've checked the archives but nothing comes up. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

My parents own a paint business. One of their sales reps that comes up every now and then is a really cool guy. He was telling my a story about all the crazy stuff he did when he was younger. Now, why does this pertain to you? Because one of them was just starting engines on the ground. So, i would guess you really dont need an engine stand, but i bet it would be alot nicer. I would think the easiest way to make one would to be to use engine mounts, and weld a frame off of them. Probably find a bellhousing to hook up to the back of the engine to hook up your starter, and i would think (?) you would be good to go.

Back when I was a kid, many moons ago, salvage yards (junk yards) would fire up engines out of the car for perspective buyers to observe them running before a purchase. These engines were mounted to wooden frames made from timbers about the size of rail road ties bolted together with the engine bolted to these frames.

Seems like it would be pretty easy to make one of these for a provisional engine stand. I did see engines run on these things a long time ago.

I have a buddy who has one for sale. I can get the particulars if you need.

i made simple test stand for motor, i had an old truck welded two simple bars across one infront and one behind motor mount locations far enough away so they werent in way to keep alignment proper , cut frame section out with torches about 16 each way from motor mounts. weld on some adjustable legs with braces all around and some steel wheels to roll on and bravo ready to go stand. next time i do it i will remember one thing ................. leave the dang radiator and mounts in place so no messing around for coolant frame after duhhhhhhhhhhhh. i suppose also if you had room you could leave aough of the frame intact to mount full tranny up to use as storage craddle for complete rolling set up to test fire on.
