Default 1 barrlel carb- 65

Hello, I'm new to this forum. I have a pink 65 convertible (grandpa bought it new for grandma that year) 6cyl 200 cid, c4 auto. My aunt has owned the car ever since my granny was deemed too advanced in age to wrestle it down the road (about 20 years ago), and I was chosen to be the next generation's owner, as I've been a mechanic for 25 years (own a volvo repair shop). I've had the car for about 3 years.
About a year into my stewardship, the carburetor started leaking gas out of the upper housing (thru the metal, not thru a gasket). I put a rebuilt (1 barrel) on it, and set it up with the help of the "red" ford shop manual for 65 comet, falcon, fairlane, & mustang. Ever since the carb replacement, the car stalls decelerating, and is very difficult to start at times (like vapor lock)- usually after sitting for 10 minutes on a very hot day, engine fully warmed up. Also after starting in the morning, driving to the coffeehouse (3 minutes of driving), getting a cup of coffee (car off for 3 minutes)- when trying to restart, it's flooded- when it does finally start, giant disgusting cloud of black smoke out the tailpipe.
I put yet another rebuit carb on last year- same results. This was not happening with the origional carb, and began immediately upon installing the first rebuit one. Any ideas?

I haven't had luck with autolite 1100s...

When I got my 68, the one on the vehicle was in visibly bad shape... I bought a replacement from my local parts house and after chasing it with different settings and replacing every other variable, I found out that it apparantly was in a fire and the plastic insert in the body was tore up. I tried a couple others that my buddy had, with no luck...

Finally, I just bored out the spacer a bit and stuck a C1RBS carb on it (from a 72 250), I "modified" the linkage to accept the 68 style and it... so far... has run extremely well.

Sad thing is that I had that RBS in the garage the whole time while I toyed and frustrated over the other carbs and set ups... ugh.

well by what youve said, now this is pure speculation, it sounds like your needle and seat is letting gas pour or drip in when the car is shut off and when your letting off the gas too much is getting by causing it to stall. like i said its hard to say but i would give that a try or check and see if that is whats goin on by looking down in the carb when you kill it and see if you got gas spillin or drippin in, it dont take much to flood one..one grain of sand in the needle and seat of those lil carbs will really cause one to run like crap...
