![]() I have a chance to buy a '66 fastback stang. It has been sitting in a garage for 20 years. It is solid but obviously needs work. The body just needs paint and could possibly be buffed. the underneith has surface rust but i guess could be blasted. It is a 1 owner car but it will need all new brakes, bearings, springs, etc... It is a six banger too with an auto. I would swap in a 289. The interior is good with buckets and a console. Is $2500 too much?

![]() DANC,That sounds like a real good price for a Fastback. If it isn't all rusted out and just has surface rust on underside and the body is straight I'd jump on it.
I don't know where you live, but in Southern California,$2500 might buy a beater '66 Coupe suitable for making into a drag car.If you like it and enjoy working on Mustangs go for it. ------------------ '62Falcon 351W '58 Morris Minor 289/C4 "Just Falcon Around" |

![]() I agree with Muncie. You're better off getting a V8 car if you want a V8 car. The initial expenditure is worth it in the long run. You'll end up spending more on converting the 6cyl than you would just buying an original V8. The price isn't bad, but I wouldn't get it if I really wanted a V8 car.

![]() 2500 for a straight bodied fastback, I would have killed for a deal like that when I bought my stang 3 years ago. And it really isn't all that expensive to conv to a V8 from the six. especially when it needs new brakes any way. California Mustangs does a disk front kit that comes with everything, and you can pick up a new rear for cheep. And besides, with what you are paying for that car, plus the expenses of motor and other swap stuff, I think you will be ending up on the cheaper side, cause most of the V8 cars I have seen are thrashed.

![]() I already plan on redoing the whole underneith of the car so the only extra expense should be the engine (which most would do anyway) and front spindles, and a rearend. IS THAT ALL OR AM I MISSING STUFF HERE? Actually, a friend of mine has a 65 coupe with a 289 that he is willing to part out. I could use the rearend and motor from it. What size rearend were in the 65-66 v8 cars?

![]() Almost all had 8" rear ends.
Some Hi-po's and Shelby's had 9". -JON |

![]() You will need more than spindles, engine and rear end from the 65 coupe.Try to get the whole car, switch V8 parts to the FB,replacing any worn stuff.Put the 6cyl stuff back on the coupe and roll it to the junk yard or sell it.The motor mounts, radiator, trans, drive shaft, rear end,and front suspension and brakes are all different from a 6 to V8.
