![]() I finally broke down and ordered a new suspension kit from here. It includes HiPo leafs and 620 drop coils. It also has the new shocks with it. Any input on how much better my car will ride? Eventually I'm going to replace the steering and the rest of the front end, but I have to start somewhere.
Anybody done the same type of thing to there classic? Feedback is always appreciated. ------------------ 1966 Baby blue Coupe, 289, Manual 3-speed, Edelbrock 650, Flowmaster 3-chambers, and minor upgrades. Interior work includes custom paneling, custom dash dress-up(I refuse to cut anything out of the original), Rewiring most of the electronics, Porsche 911 seats installed soon, and Stroker kit when I get to Texas. November of 2001 I will go back to Dallas. |

![]() Damn! $280! I assume that was just because you're in Hawaii? I'd wait too but I'm curious when you reorder how everything goes as my 66 needs some new suspension life. I have the inline six so with less weight up front our needs probably differ. When are you headin' to Texas?
-ok- disregard... I see you say Nov. 2001 for Texas... ![]() Brett ------------------ 66 Tahoe Turquoise Coupe Laser Red 96GT Ragtop 30 Years & 30 inches apart in the driveway! [This message has been edited by Stefan (edited 05-24-2001).] |

![]() You can use the same suspension kits for the 6 vs. 8, but don't go with 620 coils. They are much too harsh. Go with a softer coil, I'm going to use Mustang Plus' GT coils. NPD has a similar coil as well.
Also, in case anyone didn't know, there are different '620' coils springs. One type is actually rated 620 lbs / inch, the other '620's refer to the diameter of the coil being .620" with a different rating. Be sure you find out what you're ordering when you ask for 620 coils. Al ------------------ [This message has been edited by amartin725 (edited 05-24-2001).] |

Very interesting. I didn't know that. I also appreciate the input on the coils being too harsh. I'll keep it mind when I do order a suspension kit for my car. Thanks... |

![]() Power,
I think Al might have been referring to the 620's as being too harsh for the inline six( I could be wrong, though). Al? Thanks for the info. You're right Power, there are a lot of new members on here with tons of good info. There's a lot more activity than there used to. ![]() Yep, I was referring to the 620's being harsh on the I6. Some I6 people have run them and have gotten beat up pretty bad.
If I remember correctly, Canadian Mustang is one place that sells the '620' coil made from .620" steel Al ------------------ |

![]() I went with the 620 coils along with new leafs and sway bars from Mustangs Plus on my '68 289. They are definitely stiff but I like the way the car handles now.
The kit along with shipping was about $500. It shouldn't be a whole lot more when you get back to Texas. |

![]() Which leafs did you go with? 4, 4 1/2, or 5 leaf, regular, mid-, or reverse eye? And did you do the Shelby mod to the uppers?
Also, what size rims and tires are you running and how does it sit? I'm most curious about the leafs because I am considering regular eye 4 1/2 leafs from Mustangs Plus for mine and am trying to find people who have tried them. Al ------------------ |

![]() I went with the regular eye 4 1/2 leaf. Tires are P235/60R15. I did do the front and rear sway bars. That really helps keep the frame flat in corners. I didn't do the Shelby mods.
Another big upgrade was the Flaming River steering box. I tried a few rebuilds and they were worse than my original box. Flaming River boxes are the next best thing to rack and pinion and a heck of a lot cheaper. |

![]() Thanks for the info.
Currently, I'm working on my own budget-swap R&P / disk brake setup. Later this summer, I'll have full details, but for now, I'm just teasing everyone! Al ------------------ |

![]() Think I've mentioned this all before, but I got all my suspension and steering stuff from Mustangs Plus. Mostly road racing specs (stiff) which is what I wanted. Disk brakes (Granada conversion) from Jim's Mustangs. Overall happy with all of it. Specific questions on my installation, e-mail me.
