![]() I have a 68 coupe with a 289. My problem is the engine noise coming through the radio. I have an aftermarket Customautosound deck with the cd changer in the trunk. I have tried everything to eliminate the noise. Re-ran speaker wires, replaced antenna, new spark plug wires, and the deck has a built in noise suppressor. The only other thing I can think of is a cleaner power source.
Anyone have any ideas on a solution? Anyone know what was the original power source (wire color) used on a 68? Its very loud through the speakers.

![]() Try running a direct source of 12 volts through a relay to power the radio. I've done this in the past, in fact to my last 68 Mustang to get rid of engine noise.

![]() I think the original hot wire was light blue red stripe.
Do they still make noise filters? Isn't this problem what they were for? |

![]() I have a filter on the power lead and it does very little if anything. I also added an alternator filter and it had no effect.
I like the relay idea, straight to the battery. I will try that this week. Thanks

![]() Maybe I am captain obvious here but just incase, make sure you have a good clean ground. That ground wire needs to have good clean metal to metal contact.

![]() resistor spark plugs? I think non resistor plugs lets noise through the radio no matter how good of ground you have.

![]() What kind of noise is coming through?? A "Popping", "Whirring", "Static". This might help to narrow it down to what is causing the noise.
