Default What's a 65 Mustang worth??

It's sad, but my baby must go. Need to sell some stuff to pay off business debt.

65 GT coupe. Not a fastback. 289 with a 4spd and 4:11 gears. Paint is new but it's a Maaco special. It has a teardrop hood. All the emblems have been peeled and painted over. All glass and bumpers in new condition. Auto meter gages, bucket seats. Interior in great shape. Needs headliner as that has been removed. Subframe connectors. Ran 13's at the strip. Good street car.

I know this is vague, but prices are everywhere! Original mustangs are as high as 99K! Then I've seen clapped out rust buckets for $2,500 with no glass, and no fenders. Not really sure how to price a classic mustang. Any suggestions?

I think that a clean title, frame integrity and the floors are the most important...

Even then, it is a crap shoot... especially at this time of year. If you can afford to be patient, you'll probably get your price... If not, you are at the mercy of the local market...

I do have a clean title and there's no rust anywhere. This baby has never seen rain.

I didn't even think about the time of year. Spring will probably bring better profits.

I hate to help give advice on the selling of a stang, but it looks like you have some other toys, so all is not lost.

I would set ur price at what you want. Get some local trader ads and see what they are going for. Hold steady on the price and if no one bites, they will in the summer. Unless ur price is way over what the cars can bring, advertising the fact that it is rust free should help tons.

Keep in mind u have a California car and we in the midwest desperately seek those bad boys. I bought mine from California off of pictures alone. I would try ebay.

If you are going that route, throw in some frame and floor pics. Also include clear shots of the bare inside of the trunk...

Bare inside of the trunk? Is that a place people look? The car is carpeted. I figured my target audience is some rich high school kid or someone who wants a street strip car. Gonna need to swap out the domed pistons for flat tops and put a smaller cam in. Someone's going to have fun with the car. I figure 8K would be a healthy price.

I think 8k is a steal if the the frame and floors are good, and the body is in half decent shape.

Old fords are notorious for having leaf springs pop up through the trunk... which goes back to the rear frame rails...

If the car is rust free with decent paint you would be giving it away around here for that price. Top it off with a healthy 302, I think you can get by with asking more. I guess it all depends on how soon you want to get rid of it.

Ya the frame and floors are great. The paint is a Maaco special, so it's not the best paint, but it is new. I figured 8K would have been a fair price. I've got it apart cleaning everything. I'll have the engine done soon and you'll be able to eat off of it! The engine needed to be detuned so it's more street friendly. I'll have to check the trunk area for the leaf springs. As far as I know, it's ok.

Thanks for all your advice, I appreciate that guys! I'll get some pics here for you soon. I've got the car in pieces right now.

8 K profit is sweet! However mine is not restored. I guess we'll see what the market brings. I might take her to the Pomona fairplex when they have the high performance swap meet and car shows.

Try Nada.com for a quick e-appraisal. My plain '65 coupe came in around $12k (if memory serves).

Well she wasn't 'fully reatored' and in a ground up deal but she had 90% of her factory items including the dash ect. in great condition. She had less then 50,000 original miles when I found her in a garage and I was the second owner so bringing her back to her glory days really didn't take much in the way of cash just time and effort. As for the shows at the Fairplex be ready for A LOT of tire kickers and people just interested in the price so they can find a range just like you are doing now.

I know most of you have seen her but here are a few pictures for those that havent...
