![]() I have a 73 convertable with a 302/c4 combo, and want to install a 429/c6 combo. A friend has found this from a co-worker for only 500 bucks. What kind of mods will need to be done other than driveshaft, and throttle linkage. Someone has told me that i will need to widen the shock tower like they did in the '69 or '70 mustang (not sure exactly which year). Any info would be great. Thanks guys.

![]() It is a pretty straight forward swap.
429's came in 70-73 Stangs. Plenty wide engine bay. If you bought a BOSS 429 The towers would need to be cut, your talking lots of money to run a BOSS. The BOSS is not of the 385 series 429/460 Big Ford family,(Its Bigger.) Cross member for the C6,motor mounts for the 429/460 from local parts house. Headers can be had from Headman. I cannot remember but I think driveshaft will work. Using the shorter of the C-6 yokes, may be wrong. Also consider 720 lbs of motor -vs- 500 something for the 302. You may need to change coil springs. It wont handle the same or even stop the same, but who cares its a 429. Big Blocks are Big Fun ! |

![]() Thanks for the info mustangII. I wonder if I were to use a medium rise intake if I would have to change hoods or if I would just need a really thin air cleaner. Any idea of horsepower numbers? I think its out of a early 70's large car. Honestly know very little about the vehicle yet.
