Default Part Peformance

Sorry but I'm kinda new and I just wanna learn some more about my engine and performance parts. I know the basics of engines but I don't know what is worth changing right now. Also I don't really even know what has been done to my engine. When I pull it out I hope to find out what's been done to it.
I was looking to add abit more power to my engine. Right now I have a chance to buy a Edelbrock PERFORMER 351-W (IDLE-5500 RPM) Intake Manifold for my 351-4bbl. I was wondering how much hp will it give me, I have a Holly Carb I think the 600cfm on it but not 100% sure. Also a K&N Air Filter if that makes a difference. I can pick it up for $150 Canadian (apx $95 US) it's used but in good condition.

Also next question should I change my ignition coil (I don't believe there is anything special with the one I got now) also which brand do you suggest. Also should I change my ignition, and which one too. What performance difference will I notice with changing each of these.

Thank you for your patience and helping me out. I figured if there was anyone best to ask it was you guys.

Thanks!
§am.

$95 bucks for a good intake sounds like a good deal to me. That's what I have on my car as well. I'm not sure about how many hp it gave me, but I will say the difference was a fairly noticeable one. I would recommend picking a manifold that will suit the motor you want to build in the future, ie: if you're gonna stroke it and put high flow heads and a big cam, then you may want to put an intake that supports more top end power becuase you'll already have enough low end torque to get you off the line. Keep those kinds of things in mind.
As far as ignition is concerened, I have put it high on my list of things to do. Several of my friends have installed MSD or mallory electronic distributors, high power coils, msd box (6al), and good wires. The kit from pertronix is a good one, and I was considereing putting it in before I started having trouble with my current distributor. All of these friends have noticed a big increase in mid-range and top end power (as a result of more complete combustion) and even better gas milage. Their cars are also much easier to start on a cold morning.

Hope that helps....later.

Thanks, the advice and info is greatly appreciated. I am going to buy it since I have the opertunity, the engine is coming out of the car come spring so at that time I'm going to get a new coil probably take 69Fastback's suggestion and get a MSD, and probably get a ignition at that time too. The ignitions look rather pricey but I guess that's with any parts really.
