Talking Tachometer for 67

I would like to install a tachometer into my 67 Mustang. I hear some 67's came with a tach that was installed in the dash next to speedometer, but mine has the integrated oil pressure gauge and alternator.

Does anyone know how to get a hold of one of these original tachs, and whether its a mechanical or electical type tach.

Or, does anyone know of any retro looking gauges that would match up that I could mount onto the steering column?

I stuck a tach in place of the clock (center 2 1/16 opening). Auto Meter makes one that fits perfectly and looks pretty stock. The location makes it very easy to see as well.

diablopony,

That's a great idea!!!! I was actually pondering that idea the other day. I'm going to try and find that tach. Where did you purchase yours?

The original tachs are electric and i might suggest straying away from the originals, i don't know if the one in my car is just tired or what but at idle its at 0 RPM and when the choke is on or on the highway it says im at 4000 RPM when im closer to two, anyway my .02

It's an Auto Meter 2 1/16 8K tach. They make a 5K one that has bigger numbers. Any speed shop has them or Auto Meter on-line.

I'll try and get a good pic and post it.
