Default ignition for fords

Hey, as an electronic expert I can tell you this much. I have owned both an MSD 6A and a Crane Hi-6 box. I owned earlier capacitive discharge ignitions systems before MSD took over that marketplace by giving ignitions to all the successful racers. That was some good marketing!

Both MSD and Crane are comparable and I would be happy to buy either one. As for an MSD wearing out in a year, that is simply USER ERROR. They do not "wear" out.

For my money I would not use a Pertronix unit. It is a serious waste of money and so is their substandard coil. WASTE OF MONEY!

I can buy a remanufactured 79 302 distributor with magnetic pick up for 36.00 and then buy a Crane Hi-6 from summit racing for 155.00 and a coil for 48.00. Buy the LX-91 which is a high performance coil with epoxy poured in to keep everything vibration resistent. Now you have spent less than $250.00 and you have an ignition that runs just short of a $2,500 magneto system. It will have up to 12 sparks per rotation at low RPM which is significantly better than MSD and it ROCKS at the high end.

This is what I currently run. Bud, I have owned all the rest before. They were simply not the ticket. This is the ticket.

By the way, the Crane Hi 6 also has a built in rev limiter. THIS WILL SAVE YOUR BUTT. Buy a rev limiting box from MSD and you have spent 229.00 or more. So go magnetic trigger, Crane Hi 6 box and Crane LX-91 coil. This is as good as it gets PERIOD.

Hope this helps,

Jim
