![]() ![]() Hey Guys, Well I'm having problems with a Pertronix Ignitor and Flamethrower coil. I just put another 302 into my 65 coupe. I'm at the point of starting it up, and I can't get it to light. At first I got a backfire through the carb. Then I got the dreaded, " it ain't gonna start crank", you know the one where you can tell there is no fuel or spark. So, I hook up the old coil and pull the coil wire off to crank it over and check for spark in the dark garage. Blue flames everywhere. So I'm thinking the new Flamethrower coil is bad. Proceed to crank the engine and nothing. I throw a Voltmeter on the ignition wire going to the positive side of the coil and it only reads 6 volts. So I un-hook the ignition wire and it reads 12 V with the ignition on. I throw it back on the coil and it reads 6V with the ignition on. So now I'm thinking what the "fudge". I unhook the ignition wire again and it reads 12V. Hook it back to the coil, 6V. If I unhook the black wire going to the negative side of the coil, the positive side will read 12V.????? I don't get it. According to Pertronix the Ignitor has 2 wires. The red wire goes to the positive side of the coil and the black to the negative. Then you connect the 12V ignition wire to the positive side of the coil with the red wire. This is how I have it hooked up. Everytime I hook up the black wire up, the voltage drops to 6V on the positive side and that won't light the fire at all. Does anyone have any ideas?? I hear great things about Pertronix, but I'm tearing my hair out. Any response appreciated!!
