![]() Well.. my car sucks. I have a 68 with a 289 and a c4. The reason I'm posting with the topic title "skateboard" is because thats what my car rides like. Thats the best way i can describe it. It hits bumps like a **********. I feel every little crack and it makes my car float. And if i get it up in speed a little its really hard to control. Oh yeah, its power steering (which leaks all the goddarn time.) Basically my cars a nightmare on wheels. Anyone else experience this? How many things are wrong with it. OH and I also got air shocks. Thanks your help is appreciated.

![]() Gosh, do you think you might have some suspension problems? With things being as nasty as you say, I would start with the basics. Even the mounting points for the rear springs and stress cracks in the shock towers. From there check out both front and rear springs and shocks. Then the other suspension components. Stock mustangs are not great handlers but they are not as bad as you are experiencing. Get that car to a good suspension shop.

![]() First start off with the easy things why do you have air shocks? If your springs are shot this is not the way to fix this. Have you ever had any suspension work done? These parts are not made to last forever, and I agree with John that mustangs are not the best handling cars but you must have some suspension parts that need some attention. The power steering leak is common and just probably needs some new seals for now.

![]() I had similar problems with my 66 convertible when i took posseion late last summer. The fist thing I did was order a complete front end kit from Mustang's Unlimited, including 620 lb springs which lowered the front approx 2", Tie rod ends, ball joints, upper and lower control arms, spring seats sway bar bushings . in other words the whole enchilada. I used the Shelby template to lower the upper control arms, and later installed Monroe gas matic shocks all around. I changed the tires to 185/60R14, this is just temporary till I can get some nice 17" wheels. The rear shackles need new bushing, maybe but thats another day. I changed the steering wheel to 14" leccarra. This car handles great now. the steering feels tighter and the whole car feels better. This all cost about a $1000 installed. and the second best improvment so far to this car I suggest you get this done soon before you become disenchanted and sell your dream to someone else.

![]() well i got $250 dollars to spend, IM thinking, shocks up front, new stock leaf springs in the back (the air shocks on the rear are fairly new.) then a rebuild front kit. (i gotta fix the powersteering now too) i went to san diego for a week and when i came back and got in my stang, i had MANUAL steering. somethings not right there, so i went to auto zone and got powersteering fluid. after i put it in and started it up, i turned the wheel back and forth like ur supposed to do then got out and checked it, I had none again. this time when i turned the wheel it was making that awful sound we all know. i backed up and there was my powersteering fluid lying in a puddle. i payed $2.11 for that **** and poured it on the damn ground. i hate leaks.
oh yeah.. i know $250s not enough but ill get more. ------------------ 1968 coupe [This message has been edited by dark horse (edited 02-14-2000).] |
