Default Speedometer Cable to Transmission O-ring

I noticed that my transmission is leaking slightly where the speedometer cable goes into the transmission. I purchased a new o-ring and plan on installing this weekend. However, my question is this. Does that particular part of the transmission hold a lot, or any transmission fluid when the engine is off? Just curious if I need to drain the fluid before I pull it out or not? Sure don't want to remove it and have one big mess. Thanks.

Default C-4?

On my C-4, the fluid level is below the spedo connection. And it doesn't have to be the O-ring leaking. Sometimes it's just the attatchment of the cable housing to the spedo connector that leaks a little. Only a new cable will cure that.

u can change it without it leaking too much. The fluid level is below the speedo hole, but there will be a little residue there anyhow.

Hey thanks. I have an aftermarket pan with a drain plug, but I didn't want to drain it if it wasn't necessary. Hopefully, my leak is from the o-ring only. If not, it's not that bad that I couldn't live with it.
