Question Mustang 67 - 289

I want to get the most HP from my 289.
I have already installed an Edelbrock Performer Kit (Carb, Cam, Lifters and Intake)with new springs (Crane) and installed an Ignitor (electronic point) with its Pertronix Coil.

I FORGETIT I AM ALSO USING HEADMANN HEADER

What else may I do?? I have read in one message that it is possible to get 390HP from the 289.
Many Thanks in Advance.
PS. Excuse me about my Englishm but I am a Spanish Speaker. I live in LIMA - PERU (from where the Y2K Playboy twins come from)

It would also help to buy a set of aftermarket aluminum heads such as the edelbrock's or trick flow heads. Also headers and good exhuast system is a must!

I agree the heads will help and try for roller rocker arms as well. If that does not get you where you want you might have to look at some different pistons and connecting rods to help increase the stroke.

Welcome to the mustangworks agazzo!
It sounds like your off to a good start.
What year is your mustang?

I think the best bang for your money improvement is taller rear end gears. Old mustangs came with 2.80 open rear end gears and 3.55:1 limited slip rear end gears are a great upgrade.

As far as engines go, there is always supercharging.

Thanks guys, now I know that I am on the right way.
I need some more tips.
Which Heads are the Best for my 289?
Which rear end will give me the more advantage?
I also have a little problem with my starter and the flywheel, if I install the starter normally, the Bendix remains linked to the wheel, so I am using two spacers to put the Starter a little bit rearwards. WHY? Do I forget some spacer between the Crank and the Flywheel? Any Ideas?

I forget to say that my 67 stang is with a C4 Automatic transmision.

Many, many Thanks.

I think the rear end swap is a sound idea. If you do look at after market alum heads, like TFS or Edelbrock you must also use hardened push rods, stud type roller rockers, and you cannot use a cam that has more than 230 degrees duration when measured at .050. You can get your pistons fly-cut or use pistons made for the TFS heads. Also push rod lenght must be measured to ensure proper valve train geometry.
