Stall converter

I am reworking the top end of my 68 302. I am planing on putting a 292 Comp Cams Magnum Cam in. Comp cams suggest that I use a 3500 stall. That seems really high to me. Do you guys think that I can use a little less or not. Motor info: 302, 20 over, flat top pistons, 10.5 compression, 302 heads (cast) 2.02/1.60 valves s/s, guide plates, Hardened push rods, magnum rocker arms 1.6 (Comp cams)
Auto trans, 3:80 gears in the rear.
This is a street car / track for fun!!!

Re: Stall converter

3000-3500 would be fine... it doesnt take that much RPM to move the car if you werent sure about that. And the actual stall will vary depending on engine torque..

Re: Stall converter

I use a 3000 stall TCI Street Fighter on my 306 with a CC 268 EXE (268/280 or 224/230 @ .050") and 3.25/1 gears, and it's just about right. I would take the tech advice from CC and use the 3500 stall for that 292 Magnum.
